KOS key opens car but won't start it.

My evo was sitting for 10 months with no engine, 3 months ago I checked the ignition right before re-installing engine and it was able to go all the way to start. At some point when wiring the alternator the positive shorted to ground and blew the fuse block. After getting a new block the car will say "Key not detected" when in the driver seat. But sticking the key out the window it can lock and unlock the car.

In MUT3 I go to access the keys registered to add another one or re-add the existing one, but I keep getting 'Key Error $81' (image attached).

I've replaced ETACS and the KOS unit 8637A566 and was able to successfully write the VINs.

Any other options or modules I can chceck

Any ideas would be appreciated, I would also be willing to disable the immobilizer setup or run the physical key if I could start the car with it.
